GLADSTONE PARK — If canceled checks, credit card statements and love letters from the one that got away are taking up valuable space, you can stuff all of it in bags and watch it be destroyed at a free paper shredding and electronic recycling event set for Aug. 1.

Sponsored by Ald. Margaret Laurino (39th) and State Rep. John D'Amico, (D-Mayfair), an electronic recycling and shred day will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 1 in the parking lot of Coletti's Restaurant, 5707 N. Central Ave.

Paper clips, staples and other bindings should be removed from paper to be shredded, organizers said. Old electronics, batteries, inkjet cartridges, laptops, computers and televisions will also be recycled in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

There is a limit of two boxes per person, and boxes cannot be left at the site, which will accept items until the trucks' capacity is reached, organizers said.
