BRIDGEPORT — Robert Greco makes his living doing a job no one else likes to "doo."

In the trunk of his red Ford Focus, the 34-year-old Joliet native keeps his tools: A smelly bucket he bought at ACE Hardware — and an even smellier scooping device from Menard's.

"My tools are pretty simple," Greco said. "That's why I picked this business: It wasn't a hard startup cost."

Greco is the man behind a business he calls Dirty Dog Disposal, which has almost 700 likes on Facebook since he started the company in November.

Can you guess what he does? Ask for a job description, and Greco will keep it PG:

"I go into people's backyards and I scoop everything up," he said of his trade, which, by Greco's account, is in high demand these days. "A lot of people like the business because they don't like to do it on their own."

Back in November, when Greco decided to enter the field of dog waste disposal, the yard boss printed out 1,000 business cards through Vistaprint. Since then, his card supply has dwindled to less than 50.

Shortly after posting his first advertisement on Facebook, someone sent Greco a message saying how absurd it would be for anyone to hire him to clean up their backyards.

But within hours, Greco had 10 gigs lined up.

Those customers shared a common thread: They typically worked 60 hours or more a week and didn't have the time to clean up the yard.

"They don't want to spend time in their yard," Greco said. "They'd rather enjoy their kids and their dogs."

Before he started disposing of dog waste throughout Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Greco worked jobs as a DJ, warehouse worker and retail grunt.

"Everything where you have to work for someone else and they tell you what to do all the time," said Greco, who has a 4-year-old daughter, 5-month-old son and two stepdaughters with his wife. "One nice thing about this is I don't have a boss. I'm my boss."

Dirty Dog Disposal is a one-man operation, and Greco often stays with family in the Bridgeport area if he has gigs in the city.

Greco's goal is to expand, move to the South Side full time and eventually hire employees to clean up more yards. But the drive behind his business goes beyond helping customers, he said.

Greco wants to help people looking for a way to make ends meet.

"I remember what it was like when I needed to find work and there were no jobs out there," Greco said.
