CHICAGO — Police shot a man who pointed a gun at them early Sunday, according to a Chicago Police Department statement.

Police received a report of a robbery at 3:45 a.m. in the 2200 block of South Western Avenue on the Near West Side, according to police. They began to search for a suspect and saw a man who matched the thief's description in the 2300 block of West 21st Street, according to police.

Police ordered the man to stop, but he refused, according to police. The man then pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it in the officers' direction, according to police. An officer shot at the man, who was able to run away, but he was caught after a short chase, according to police.

The man was then taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to police. There were no injuries to police and a gun was recovered at the scene, according to police.
