CHICAGO — Police say an officer shot a robbery suspect in Little Village early Sunday morning.

According to a police statement Sunday, officers responded to a reported robbery in the 2200 block of South Western Avenue and received a description of the robber from the victim.

Another police unit heard the description over the radio and saw a man matching that description on the 2300 block of West 21st Street, according to the statement. The officers approached the man on foot and ordered him to stop.

The man verbally refused, then pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers, police said.

An officer shot the man, and the wounded man fled on foot before he was shortly caught by officers, according to the statement. The man was then taken to a hospital for treatment.

As of Sunday night, no charges against the man had been announced and he had not been identified.

There were no other reported injuries, police said.
