PILSEN — Neighbors were confused when a second farmers market in Pilsen didn't open as planned Wednesday.

The Pilsen Night Market, one of the city's two new farmers markets this season, will now open for the season Wednesday, July 22 at 18th Street & Blue Island Avenue, Christine Carrino, marketing director for the city's Department of Cultural Affairs, confirmed. The market will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday after that through Sept. 2.

The Pilsen Night Market will sell fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and other farmers market staples.

The night market is offered in addition to the Pilsen Community Market, which operates outdoors from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays May 31 through Oct. 25.

All City of Chicago-managed market locations accept LINK and will distribute double value coupons with every LINK purchase.

After delaying the night market's open date one week, city officials ultimately decided to delay the market's open date to July 22, city officials said. The change was not widely communicated to the community.

Ald. Danny Solis' 25th Ward office and the city's Department of Cultural Affairs decided to delay the market for another week in order to ensure the location and opening date of the market "would meet community expectations," said Carrino.

In addition to the new Pilsen Night Market, Chicago debuted a new market at Martin Luther King Drive & 26th Street in Bronzeville this season.
