HYDE PARK — Four artists are exploring mixing money and family in a new exhibit on family owned businesses on the South Side.

“Mom and Pops: Family Business in Art in Life” opens with a 6 p.m. reception Friday at the Washington Park Arts Incubator, 301 E. Garfield Blvd., and runs through Sept. 11.

Artists Hyeon Jung Kim, Melissa Leandro, Jacolby Satterwhite and Hank Willis Thomas are presenting works that grapple with the role of the family business, often in collaboration with their own family members.

The exhibit gets at the way these small businesses come to define their neighborhoods, and also how they can highlight the ethnic, social, religious, and economic differences in the community.

The reception and exhibit is free and open to the public.
