5411 Empanadas To Open Downtown Store; Hand Out Free Food Wednesday

THE LOOP — 5411 Empanadas, which got its start as a food truck circling The Loop, is parking for good Downtown.

The Chicago-based mini-chain will open a new Downtown store Wednesday at 175 N. Franklin St. It's the fourth store for the company since three friends started serving empanadas out of a truck in 2009

"Downtown was where our customer base was from the beginning," 5411 Business Development Manager Amanda Rodriguez said. "The truck Downtown was our start and we have a brick-and-mortar store here now. It's a really exciting moment for us."

Those who visit the store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday can get up to three free empanadas, or Argentinean stuffed pastries, for the occasion.

The new Loop store, which seats about 20, will be open regularly from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Empanadas cost $2.50 each, with the menu also including Bow Truss coffee.

The Downtown store follows three others in Lakeview and Wicker Park. Another forthcoming 5411 is under construction at 3715 N. Southport Ave. in Lakeview, Rodriguez said. And the company's food truck will still be circling The Loop.
