MORGAN PARK — Hall of Fame bluesman John Hammond will take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Beverly Arts Center.

Hammond will celebrate his 50-year career with the concert at 2407 W. 111th St. in Morgan Park. He's also expected to play several songs from his recently released album "Timeless."

Hammond's musical history reads a bit like a "who’s who" in rock and blues. He's performed with Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Tom Waits, The Band, John Lee Hooker and many more.

In fact, a young Jimi Hendrix was discovered while playing in Hammond’s band.

Hammond has eight Grammy nominations, most recently for Album of the Year for his 2010 release "Rough and Tough." He won a Grammy for his performance on "Blues Explosion" in 1985.

The bluesman also has eight Blues Music Awards and another 12 nominations. Hammond won the 2011 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Artist of the Year. He was also inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.

“John’s sound is so compelling, complete, symmetrical and soulful with just his voice, guitar and harmonica, it is at first impossible to imagine improving it," fellow musician Tom Waits said. "He’s a great force of nature.”

Tickets to the show cost $30 or $27 for members of the center. For more information, visit the venue's website or call 773-445-3838.
