HYDE PARK — The South Side arts scene is getting a boost in Bronzeville this summer thanks to the Chicago Community Trust.

The Bronzeville Summer Nights series received a $40,000 grant to expand monthly arts nights in the neighborhood.

According to organizers, the grant has allowed the gallery trolley tours, which have grown from 50 riders during its first tours eight years ago to 500 visitors per tour last year, and the Bronzeville Nights cultural events.

On the third Friday of every month through September there will be events at galleries and arts centers throughout the neighborhood with free trolley transportation between events.

The first events kicked off last Friday with open artist studios at the Bronzeville Artist Lofts, a retrospective of the South Side Community Art Center in its galleries and open galleries at Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center, Faie Afrikan Art, Gallery Guichard and others.

The next Friday of events will be July 17.
