Police Shoot Man Who Allegedly Pointed Gun At Officers, Police Say

CHICAGO — A Chicago Police officer shot a man after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers in South Shore early Saturday, police said in a statement.

Around 12:10 a.m., officers responded to a call of men with guns in the 7000 block of South Merrill Street, the statement said.

When officers arrived, a 23-year-old man with a gun started running away, and a foot chase ensued, according to the police.

During the chase, police said the man pointed a gun at police and an officer shot the 23-year-old. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

A weapon was recovered on the scene, and no other injuries were reported, police said.
