LINCOLN SQUARE — A set of drums brazenly stolen from Old Town School of Folk Music last weekend was returned home by a good samaritan Sunday morning, said Eric Unger, the school's equipment manager.

A man who had purchased the four pearl-kit drums on Craigslist said he recognized them from media reports and decided to return them, Unger said: "He's probably out a few hundred dollars, but earned some karma points."

The news made the rounds in the past few days after photos were posted to Facebook, hoping to identify the thief. The surveillance photos showed a well dressed man taking a school pullcart, loading up the drums, taking them down an elevator and loading them into his white Toyota sedan with gold trim.

The thief was observed hanging around the school, talking to people and trying to blend in before stealing the drums, Unger said. It appeared his ploy worked, since nobody stopped him at the time, and school officials didn't notice the drums missing until early the next week.

Unger said the school is working with police to identify the thief.

In the meantime, he reminds community members that "there's a lot going on" at the school, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave., including workshops, summer camps and performances.
