CHICAGO — Planning on heading to one of the weekend's festivals? You might want to plan ahead.

In anticipation for the large number of riders anticipated this weekend, Chicago Transit Authority is urging bus and rail riders to plan accordingly.

During the weekend, which will see riders head to the annual Chicago Blues Fest in Grant Park, the 2015 Spring Awakening music festival at Soldier Field, and Ribfest in Lincoln Square, the CTA is recommending riders load their Ventra fare cards or purchase ride passes in advance to avoid long lines at rail station vending machines.

Passes also can be purchased online or at more than 1,300 local retailers.

Read DNAinfo Chicago's 2015 Summer Festival Guide.

To accommodate the large crowds traveling to and from events, the CTA will operate longer trains along the Red, Blue, Brown and Orange lines Friday beginning with evening rush period until at least 11:30 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until at least 11:30 p.m.

Chicago Blues Festival:  Festival attendees traveling along the Red or Blue lines should exit at Jackson, and riders taking elevated lines should exit Adams/Wabash.

2015 Spring Awakening: Additional bus service will be provided on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #130 Museum Campus bus routes.

Ribfest Chicago: Attendees can get there by exiting the Irving park Brown Line station.

The CTA is urging riders to build in extra travel time.
