GLADSTONE PARK —  A 3K run and walk will take place June 20 to honor the life and work of former Hitch Elementary School Principal Deborah "Debby" Reese, who died in 2014.

More than 200 runners in the first Run With Debby in June 2014 raised more than $2,000, with half going to Hitch Elementary School and half to St. Tarcisscus School to benefit the schools' students.

Reese, who led Hitch for 10 years, died in February 2014 of cancer.

Race organizer Chicago Police Lt. John Garrido, a member of the Hitch Local School Council, said the race would serve as the kickoff of a campaign to name the 5600 block of McVicker Avenue in Reese's memory.

Reese "worked tirelessly to bring the community together and always sought ways to increase school funding opportunities and build community relationships," Garrido said.

The run will start at 9 a.m. June 20 at Hitch, 5625 N. McVicker Ave.
