CHICAGO — A 48-year-old man died after being struck by a car as he crossed the street in West Englewood Tuesday night, police said.

Around 9:15 p.m., the man was struck by a dark-colored SUV traveling southbound in the 6400 block of South Ashland Avenue, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

He was identified as Leon Radcliff, of suburban Forest Park, and was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The SUV was found abandoned in the 6500 block of South Laflin Avenue and the Major Accidents Unit is investigating, Sedevic said.
