CHICAGO — Those living or traveling along the lakeshore should expect the weather to be making waves Saturday and Sunday — 12-foot-high waves, to be exact.

According to the National Weather Service, a lakeshore flooding advisory is in effect for Cook County from 1 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday, with waves between 8 and 12 feet predicted to build along the coastline.

The stark change from Thursday and Friday's sunny, warm weather is attributed to stirring from high winds on land, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory warns the lake front's bike path could "likely become inundated with large battering waves," making it "impassible" there, as well as in other "wave-prone" locations.
