Man Fatally Struck in Englewood Identified

CHICAGO — A man who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Englewood Monday has been identified, officials said.

On Monday, Wallace Mays Jr., 68, was crossing the street in the 6300 block of South Yale Avenue when he was struck my a vehicle around 5 p.m., police and the County County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Mays, of the 6400 block South Yale, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.

The 29-year-old driver was arrested after the accident on an related outstanding warrant. She was also ticketed for driving with a suspended license, not having a valid car registration and failure to exercise due care for pedestrian at cross walk, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

According to autopsy reports, Mays died from brain injuries sustained in the accident.
