CHICAGO — For the second time in 20 years, a car crashed into a Beverly liquor store, the store's manager said.

Tom Gibbons, manager of Town Liquors at 10000 S. Western Ave., said around 12:10 p.m. a white, four-door Toyota SUV was traveling northbound on Western Avenue when it swerved to avoid a pedestrian.

The driver, who Gibbons said was a man appearing to be in his 50s, was unable to stop amid his sharp turn and crashed into the northeast corner of the liquor store.

Gibbons said he believed nobody was hurt, though the driver was taken to the hospital. He was not bleeding after the accident.

“Everyone is OK,” Gibbons said.

About 20 years ago, an older driver plowed into these same windows, Gibbons said. That time, the driver was parked in front of the building, and thought he had his vehicle in reverse. Instead, he drove through the front door.

Gibbons seemed confident the building would be boarded up soon and business would continue as usual.

“I sincerely hope so. Otherwise it will be free liquor for everyone,” he said.

A police spokesman could not immediately confirm the details of the accident.
