Austin Carjackings Lead to Warnings from Police

CHICAGO — Police are warning Austin residents after two carjackings in May.

During the incidents, carjackers wait until their victims get out of their cars then demand their keys and drive off, police said.

The first incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. May 9 in the 5100 block of West Huron Street. The carjacker was described as a black man in his 30s standing about 5-foot-10-inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds, police said.

The second incident occurred around 11:36 p.m. May 22 in the 5100 block of West Ohio Street and involved two carjackers. No description was available, police said.
