UPTOWN — Uptown poetry fans and art admirers are in for a treat. The Uptown Art Center will host two events featuring poets and Japanese artists.

The Uptown Art Center, 941 W. Lawrence Ave., will host the Lagoon Sessions Reading, a quarterly poetry event in the gallery space, on May 22 at 8 p.m. John Goode will be among three poets during the free event run by Paul Ryan of Lagoon Editions.

The center will also host Art Working 2015: Close-up of Japan in Chicago, which will feature contemporary and landscape painters, ceramics and contemporary calligraphy from June 5 to June 10.

The five-time award-winning exhibition features visiting artists from Hokkaido, Japan including Masanori Umeda, Akemi Kai and Daisaku Ueno.

The exhibition's opening reception will be held Friday, June 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Gallery viewing hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The closing reception will be held June 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
