NORTH CENTER — Move over Guinness, there's a new homegrown Irish beer in town.

Guinness stout may be the de facto house beer at Chicago's numerous Irish pubs, but Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro is shaking things up with the introduction of Rua.

Rua, which means red or red-haired in Irish, is the new house beer at Mrs. Murphy's, brewed exclusively for the bistro in collaboration with Ale Syndicate.

The red ale, spiced with fresh ginger, will make its official debut during a free launch event at the restaurant that kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, 3905 N. Lincoln Ave.

Rua also will be available at Murphy's Bleachers, 3655 N. Sheffield Ave.
