ROGERS PARK — Coffee and pastry counter Smack Dab! opened, well, smack dab between two bars, the Glenwood Bar and Pub 626.

The building that houses all three businesses is entirely leased by Colm Treacy, who carved out a little space for the coffee counter.

Christine Forster, 28, and business partner — and resident baker — Axel Erkenswick, 27, opened their tiny coffee joint on Monday at 6954 N. Glenwood Ave.

They only serve drip coffee, by HalfWit Coffee Roasters, and savory and sweet pastries baked daily in Pub 626's kitchen. The counter is open 7:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays-Fridays.

And the Smack Dab! owners don't plan to do much more than that.

"It's just fun. It's just about having a nice moment before you go to work in the morning," Forster said as she served a few commuters stopping in for a quick coffee earlier this week. "Rogers Park needs it."
