DOWNTOWN — Northside College Prep has been named the top public high school in the state by U.S. News and World Report in its annual ranking.

The selective enrollment school at 5501 N. Kedzie Ave. was ranked 15th in the nation. It earned a "college readiness" score of 99.7. Its 1,069-student body is 58 percent minority and 36 percent economically disadvantaged, the survey says.

"Most classes at Northside College Preparatory High School are honors and Advancement Placement courses, and students can participate in study abroad programs to enhance their learning," said the U.S. News survey editors.

U.S. News evaluated schools in three areas: overall student performance in state-required tests; how schools educated their least-advantaged students; and how well they prepared students for college based on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.
