SAUGANASH — A running club organized by the Danny Did Foundation offers runners a chance to get in shape while helping to raise money to fight epilepsy, officials said.

The Edgebrook-based Danny Did Foundation was founded by Mike and Mariann Stanton in January 2010 after the unexpected death of their four-year-old son Danny in December 2009.

The Danny Stanton Running Club starts May 7 at Sauganash Park, 5861 N. Kostner Ave. Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome, organizers said.

The club features six weeks of group training runs, led by Mike Stanton. The program ends with a 5K Run/Walk on June 13.

The foundation has provided financial support to families in 48 states and seven countries, officials said. The foundation takes its name from the last line in Danny's obituary, written by his father: "Please go and enjoy life. Danny did."

The foundation helps families buy monitoring devices that sound an alarm when someone with epilepsy suffers a seizure while sleeping, which can be fatal.

About 2.3 million Americans suffer from epilepsy, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
