City Water Department Worker Shot in Little Village

CHICAGO — An city worker was shot Thursday morning while in the Little Village neighborhood, authorities said.

It happened at 11:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of South Komensky Avenue, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in his hand and upper left chest, Sedevic said.

The man was sitting in a truck when two men approached and fired shots in his direction, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Water Department spokesman Peter Scales said the victim worked for the department, but referred all other questions to police. Fire officials said the victim is 40 years old.

His injuries were not life-threatening, and he was being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital.

A woman who said she lived on the block said she heard four gunshots Thursday morning.

A truck from the city's Department of Water Management was parked in the area cordoned off by police.
