EDISON PARK — O'Connor's Market and Deli will close May 1, owner Ald. Mary O'Connor (41st) said Wednesday evening.

Beloved by many for being an Irish oasis in the heart of Edison Park, O'Connor's Market and Deli is best known for its homemade soup, huge sandwiches and imported Irish tea and candies.

In an email to customers, O'Connor said the building at 7280 W. Devon Ave., which has been on the market for three years, will be renovated by its new owner, forcing the deli to close.

"We will continue to try and find a new home," O'Connor said. "We have loved being a part of this community for the past 22 years."

O'Connor lost her bid for a second term April 7 in a runoff against Chicago firefighter Anthony Napolitano.

O'Connor has not spoken publicly since Election Day and could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.

O'Connor also owns Unforgettable Edibles Catering, which will remain at 7280 W. Devon Ave. and rent space from the building's new owner, she said.

The catering firm will be open during the renovations, O'Connor said.
