PORTAGE PARK — Food lovers can gorge on a buffet of specialties from Far Northwest Side restaurants for a good cause at the Taste of Thorp to benefit O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy.

The annual fundraiser will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at Biagio, 4242 N. Central Ave. All proceeds will be used to install a new sound and lighting system in the Portage Park magnet school's auditorium, which is one of the largest on the Far Northwest Side.

Tuesday is the last chance to buy tickets in advance at $30 per person, $50 for a couple, $25 for Thorp staff members or $250 per 10-person table. Tickets at the door will be $40 per person, said organizers with the Friends of Thorp, a parent group that raises money for special projects at the school.

An online auction of a variety of goods and services from businesses near the school at 6024 W. Warwick Ave. ended Sunday and raised approximately $8,300, organizers said.

Last year, the Taste of Thorp raised $30,000, organizers said.

Silent and live auctions will also take place at the event, organizers said.

The outdated sound system makes it impossible to hear performances in the auditorium, organizers said.
