Reckless Records 'Mega Store' To Open Next Thursday in Wicker Park

By Alisa Hauser | April 9, 2015 5:21pm

WICKER PARK —  Next week, Reckless Records' existing Wicker Park store will close for three days and reopen two blocks south in a 100-year-old vintage building.

"Wicker Park is moving down the street to 1379 N. Milwaukee. We'll be closed 4/13-15 & will open the new store Thur 4/16!!," the shop tweeted earlier this week.

In the works since the London-based chain's owner Charles Taylor bought the former Dollar Buster building at 1379 N. Milwaukee Ave. last January, the move will allow the shop to have more space to sell LPs, CDs and DVDs, and be what Taylor previously described as "the most amazing record store in Chicago."

A worker at the 1532 N. Milwaukee Ave. storefront said on Thursday that the old store would remain open for about two months to empty out inventory, but added, "nothing is set in stone, one day at a time, it's an enormous endeavor [to move]."

Founded in 1982, the independently owned record store chain has operated in Chicago since 1988 and has shops in Wicker Park, Lakeview and Downtown.
