CHICAGO — Rain will continue on and off Thursday, while a tornado watch remained in effect till 11 p.m. Thursday.

"The rain will be in place at least for another hour then they'll be a lull," said Ben Beubelbeiss, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

During the lull, pop-up storms may occur in random spurts. Around 7 p.m., a cold front will drag more rain and thunderstorms to the city that should last another hour or two, Beulbelbeiss said.

"These storms could be severe with strong winds," said Bulbelbeiss adding a tornado watch will be in effect until 11 p.m.

So far, some areas have reported a half inch of rain. Another half inch is expected, he said.

A floor advisor for the North Branch of the Chicago River is in effect until 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue into Thursday evening, said Gino Izzi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

But on Friday, the rain will make way for sunny skies and a high of 60 degrees, Izzi said.

The warmer weather will stick around through the weekend where it will hover around the mid-60s on Sunday, Izzi said.
