CHICAGO — Officials from the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners are headed to court to ensure polling places in four different wards are allowed to stay open an extra hour Tuesday night after election judges got a late start opening them in the morning.
The board is requesting the polling places are allowed to stay open until 8 p.m. because voting started more than 30 minutes late, said Langdon Neal, chairman of the elections board.
The later hours would affect polling places in some precincts at:
• 1847 N. Kedzie Ave. in the 1st Ward
• 525 N. Armour St. in the 1st Ward
• St. Monica School, 5115 N. Mont Clare Ave. in the 41st Ward
• 300 N. Canal St. in the 42nd Ward
• Eastwood Tower, 4640 N. Sheridan Road in the 46th Ward
In addition to the late openings, Neal said three judges were also removed from their posts because of abusive or erratic conduct, including one judge who refused to move headphones while working.
So far vote turnout has been quiet this morning, Neal said.
