CHICAGO — Chicago Police said they shot a man after the 34-year-old pointed a handgun at several officers during a drug investigation in Chicago Lawn Saturday.

Around 4:15 p.m. several gang enforcement officers were patrolling the block of 6100 South Rockwell Street when they approached a man who turned and pointed a gun at them before running away, police said.

Shortly after, two more officers spotted the man, and he again pointed the gun at them, police said. The officers then shot the man in his legs and he was taken to a local hospital, police said.

A gun was recovered on the scene, police said.

The shooting is under review by the Independent Police Review Authority.
