BEVERLY — A homeowner in North Beverly who didn't answer her doorbell was startled when someone kicked open the door shortly after, police said.

The resident of the home in the 9000 block of South Claremont Avenue wasn't expecting anyone so she ignored the doorbell at 12:52 p.m. March 19, according to police.

Moments later a burglar kicked open the door, startling the woman and causing her to scream, police said.

By kicking in the door the burglar also set off the home's security alarm, police said.

The burglar then ran off. He was described as a male with a dark-complexion between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-11, police said. He was wearing a gold sweatshirt, white baseball cap and khaki-style pants, police said.
