WEST LOOP — A Japanese barbecue restaurant chain plans to open its second Chicago location in the West Loop this summer.

Tokyo-based Gyu-Kaku has signed a 10-year lease to rent a 2,800-square-foot location at 1364 W. Randolph St.

Gyu-Kaku, which means "horn of the bull" in Japanese, is known for its authentic Japanese barbeque dining experience. A charcoal grill is at each table for diners to grill favorites like Harami skirt steak in miso marinade and Angus Kalbi short rib in tare soy marinade.

The restaurant also features pork, lamb, duck, chicken, shrimp and a variety of vegetables for grilling.

The restaurant will be next to Bespoke Cuisine, which hosts custom cooking parties, and down the street from Alhambra Palace.

Lee Ffrench of @properties Commercial represented Gyu-Kaku in the transaction. Elan Rasansky of RKF represented the property's landlord Harrison Jones, according to a news release.

Ffrench said the building would undergo a gut rehab. It was previously a photography studio.

Gyu-Kaku, which has more than 700 locations worldwide, opened its first Chicago restaurant in 2011 at 210 E. Ohio St.
