UPTOWN — After two years of business, flower shop Forget Me Knodt will be closing its doors in April, its owner announced on the shop's website Monday.

"Quite honestly, I came to the realization that being the owner is not where my happiness lies," said shop owner, Janessa Knodt, in a blog post.

"The vast majority of running a small business happens behind a computer screen, managing finances and scheduling, booking weddings, maintaining a marketing presence, answering emails, etc., but I am happiest when I can actually *be* at the shop — not behind a computer screen," Knodt wrote.

Knodt said her Uptown flower shop at 1313 W. Wilson Ave. has "enjoyed nothing but success," including providing flowers for more than 120 weddings.

But Knodt said she's "most effective" when she's "there, in person, talking with people, welcoming them to the shop" or "teaching classes, working hands-on with people who value floral design and what I have to team them."

That's why she has decided to close the shop April 30 and run the floral design classes program at independently-owned flower shop Fleur in Logan Square.

"Her flower shop was one of my earliest inspirations, and I am so excited to see what beautiful things will bloom when we put our heads together toward a common cause," she wrote referring to Fleur's owner Kelly Marie.

A send-off party for Forget Me Knodt is slated for April 23. Knodt could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
