DOWNTOWN — Thousands upon thousands of people flocked Downtown Saturday, fueled by the gorgeous weather and the prospect of some Irish fun (and maybe, well, some liquid encouragement).

Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman, initially said there were no arrests related to the Downtown St. Patrick's Day Parade and dyeing of the Chicago River. But on Monday police said five people were arrested and 26 people ticketed during the celebration.

Crowds lingered throughout Downtown for hours after the parade, and may revelers made their way to other neighborhoods looking to extend their day.

The fun picks up again Sunday morning, when the South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade winds its way through Beverly and Morgan Park.

Parade organizers and police have said they plan to be on the lookout for anyone looking to turn the South Side event into the wild party it became before organizers had to put the parade on hiatus for a couple years.
