ROGERS PARK — The family that squatted in a house on Ridge Avenue for the last three years was evicted Friday.

The Cook County Sheriff Office served eviction papers, and crews removed furniture from the house.

"I'm OK. We were prepared," said Maria Calvillo, who had lived there with her son and grandchildren. "We aren't worried about stuff. We are more worried about the banks not working with us."

Calvillo only spoke briefly and didn't say where she was going to take the family's possessions Friday. The family, for the most part, was no longer staying in the home as the eviction proceedings concluded. Her brother, who lived with them, moved out recently.

Calvillo and her family never owned the two-story wood-frame house at 7245 N. Ridge Blvd. They moved in after being evicted from another Rogers Park home.

For the last year, the home's rightful owner, CitiMortgage Inc., has been fighting in court to regain possession of the house.

Housing activists have rallied around the Calvillos, and protested the eviction Friday.

The family had drawn criticism from their next-door neighbors, who complained about "super loud" parties at the property.
