CHICAGO — Loop commuters can expect delays next week as the Illinois Department of Transportation prepares to begin contruction on the new flyover ramp connecting the Dan Ryan Expressway to the Eisenhower.

The project, which is part of the Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction project, will require several lane and ramp closures until it is finished in 2016, according to a press release from IDOT.

Begining Tuesday night at 10 p.m., the ramp connecting Roosevelt Road to the Eisenhower will be closed. The detour will lead motorist east allowing them to enter the expressway via Jefferson, Harrison or Wells streets. Motorist looking to enter Eisenhower outbound will be directed west to Ashland Avenue or Van Buren Street, according to IDOT.

The ramp connecting Taylor Street to the Dan Ryan will also be closed Tuesday night. The detour will direct motorists to Jefferson Street, allowing them to enter expressway via Adams Street, according to the release.

That work will continue Wednesday and Thursday with more closures expected by Friday morning's commute.

By Friday at 5 a.m. the following closures will be in place:

• The ramp connecting the inbound Dan Ryan to inbound Congress Parkway will be closed.

• The ramps connecting inbound and outbound traffic from the Stevenson to the Dan Ryan will be reduced to one lane.

• The right lane of the inbound Dan Ryan from the Stevenson to Roosevelt Road will be closed.

• A temporary roadway will be used to connect inbound Dan Ryan traffic to the outbound Eisenhower.

• Lanes from Roosevelt Road to Van Buren Street will be narrowed.
