NORTH PARK — There's plenty that divides Chicagoans these days — witness Tuesday's election results — but the folks at Peterson Elementary are focused on all the things that bring us together.

Like magic, music and food.

The school's annual "Unity Through the Arts & Sciences" is a free event for the entire community, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 5510 N. Christiana Ave. The goal is to celebrate all the ways in which art and science help us bridge cultural and language divides.

The evening is a mix of performances and exhibits by students — Peterson has a ukulele ensemble (!) — and professionals.

Catch the high-flying act of Aerial Dance Chicago, join a drum circle, make your own art or learn how planes take flight.

With so many activities to take part in, you'll want to check out the complete event schedule online. And bring a few bucks to purchase food, which is being sold as fundraiser for the eighth grade's class trip.
