UPTOWN — The city may be covered in a blanket of snow, but Uptown was recently recognized for going green.

The Citizens Utility Board recently awarded Uptown with the "Green in 2015 Neighborhood Award," according to Ald. James Cappleman's (46th) office.

Uptown and Andersonville were among 10 city neighborhoods to register the highest electricity savings through consumer watchdog group CUBEnergySaver.com, Cappleman's office said.

According to the group, residents in both neighborhoods saved a total 340,811 kilowatt hours and $26,921.

As a reward, the Citizens Utility Board is giving out 100 energy-efficient light bulbs and one $100 Amazon gift card to a lucky resident.

To win the gift card, go to the group's website, hit the "Register Now" button and follow the instructions to link to your ComEd account. The group will announce the randomly selected winner April 1.

The alderman's office will pass out light bulbs on dates that have yet to be determined.
