AUBURN GRESHAM — Ald. Lona Lane will face off against her longtime friend, Derrick Curtis, in the 18th Ward runoff in April.

Just 61 votes seperated the two candidates: Curtis had 3,618 votes, or 30.4 percent, to Lane's 3,557 votes, or 29.9 percent.

Lane was appointed by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2006. She was the first African American and first woman to serve as alderman of the 18th ward. Curtis has worked as a ward superintendent for the city and for the Cook County Sheriff's office.
