WICKER PARK — The bitter cold weather did not stop folks from waiting in line for up to 45 minutes to be among the first 100 eaters through the doors of Furious Spoon, a new ramen spot that celebrated its opening night in Wicker Park on Wednesday.

"Free food is always the best tasting food, but this was delicious regardless," said Cliff Ewert, a Bucktown resident, who enjoyed a steaming bowl of Miso Ramen topped with a poached egg.

Ewert, along with friends Ashley Gleason and Courtney Bank, had just missed being among the first 100 folks in line around 6 p.m., an hour after doors opened to the bundled-up masses. But the restaurant gave them free bowls anyway.

(l.) Ewert, Gleason, and Bank, pouting over being #103 in line:

The eatery, helmed by chef Shin Thompson, whose grandfather ran a ramen shop in Tokyo, features four different kinds of ramen: (vegetable, beef, chicken and a rotating special).

Prices start at $6.75; View the menu here.
