
CHICAGO — A Grand Crossing man was charged Sunday with attempted first-degree murder after a police-involved shooting Saturday.
Darell Robertson, 18, of the 7200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, was charged with three felony counts of attempted first-degree murder; one felony count of possession of a stolen vehicle; and one felony count of unauthorized use of a weapon in Central Bond Court on Sunday.
About 12:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were on patrol in the area of the 1300 block of West 73rd Street when they saw a vehicle attempting to park illegally, according to police. After conducting a license plate check, officer discovered that the vehicle was stolen.
As the officers approached the stolen vehicle, the offender attempted to flee, striking the officers' squad car and several parked vehicles, according to the report.
Robertson allegedly failed to comply with the officers’ commands and reached into his jacket, at which time the officers said they saw the butt of a handgun.
The officers then shot the offender, they said.
The offender was taken to an area hospital.
The police officers reported no injuries.
A weapon was recovered from the offender, police said.
