CHICAGO — A man was shot after pulling a gun on police officers in West Englewood Saturday morning,  police said.

Around 12:30 a.m., police were in the 1300 block of West 73rd Street when they saw a vehicle attempting to park illegally, police said in a statement.

After running a license plate check, officers discovered the vehicle had been stolen. When the officers walked up to the vehicle, the man tried to drive off, crashing his vehicle into the police car and other vehicles, police said.

The man refused to get out of the car when the officers told him to, and then he reached into his pocket for a handgun, police said, prompting the officers to shoot him.

The man, whose age was not available, was taken to a local hospital, police said.

A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.

Police are investigating the incident.
