CHICAGO — Two men were fatally shot Monday in Austin, police said.

The most recent shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Crystal Street, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Around 9:35 p.m., a 36-year-old man was sitting in the driver's seat of a black sedan when a man walked up to the car and began shooting into the car, Sedevic said.

The man was shot in the head and neck, but was able to drive the car to the 5100 block of West Potomac Avenue, Sedevic said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Sedevic said.

Less than 12 hours earlier, Jamaine McDaniel, 33, was fatally shot while standing in the 200 block of South Lotus Avenue, authorities said.

Around 11:10 a.m., McDaniel was standing in the 200 block of South Lotus Avenue when a man walked up to him and shot him in the chest and head, Sedevic said.

McDaniel was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:28 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

He was a documented gang member, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
