CHICAGO — Chicago Police on Saturday night said charges have been filed in the Dec. 19 mugging of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's teenaged son.

Zach Emanuel, 17, was mugged and robbed down the street from his family's Ravenswood home.

The younger Emanuel's cell phone was stolen and his front tooth was chipped in the late night robbery. The mayor has said his son was making a call to his college counselor at the time of the attack.

On Saturday, police arrested a juvenile and he confessed, according to a statement from police spokesman Martin Maloney.

He was charged as a juvenile with robbery and aggravated battery on the public way, Maloney said.

In a statement, mayoral spokesman Adam Collins said Chicago's first family is grateful to the Chicago Police.

"The Mayor and [wife] Amy [Rule] are grateful to the dedicated men and women of the Chicago Police Department for their hard work, and they would like to thank everyone who shared kind thoughts and wishes for their son’s well being. As parents, they continue to ask that the media respect their family's privacy."
