Police Warn Austin Residents of Robberies in Area

CHICAGO — A recent rash of robberies have hit the Austin neighborhood, police said in a community alert released Sunday.

In the robberies, a man or men, armed with handguns, rob the victims after walking up to them or after getting out of their car. The thieves then flee in a waiting car, either a maroon mini-van, blue Ford Windstar van, light green four-door Mitsubishi, or a green four-door Oldsmobile, police said.

The robberies occurred about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of South Laramie Avenue, at 10:14 a.m. Saturday in the 4900 block of West Madison Street, at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 15 in the 5500 block of West Division Street and 3 a.m. Jan. 12 in the 5200 block of West Ferdinand Street, according to the community alert.
