ROGERS PARK — Neighbors took to the beach Sunday despite the snow and harsh wind of the Super Bowl Sunday blizzard.

"We thought it would be crazy," said Mary Nowak, 24, who with her husband, Nick, 25, pushed through harsh snow drifts near the pier at Tobey Prinz Beach. But Nowak said she didn't think "it would be this crazy" as the winter storm dumped snow and produced winds up to 40 mph.

It wasn't only people who ventured out. Jack Cohn's pitbull, aptly named Typhoon, romped through the blizzard as though it were a sunny summer day.

"Dogs love the cold and snow. Dogs love it," said the 71-year-old.

Anthony Damiro, 40, hauled his camera and a few lenses southward along the lake, snapping photos to build up his portfolio.

"I'm a risk taker," he said. "I like to do stuff like this."

But, he said, "This side of my face is all frozen."

Julia Mercer, alongside boyfriend Alec Valadez, said she decided to "seize the day" and venture outside — but she had some advice for others with the same idea.

"I just made a Snapchat story, reporting from the blizzard, and I recommend you stay inside," she said.
