Warning Issued After Women Robbed, Pushed or Punched in Face in South Loop

CHICAGO — Police issued a warning to South Loop residents after a string of robberies this month.

In each robbery, a man approached a woman from behind, then pushed or punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground and taking her purse or cell phone, police said.

The most recent incident occurred Tuesday at 8:12 p.m., in the 1600 block of South Prairie Avenue. The other incidents occurred on Jan. 23 at 7:28 p.m. in the 1900 block of South Indiana Avenue; Jan. 16 at 7:28 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Indiana Avenue; and Jan. 13 at 9:12 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue.

The offender is described as a male between 18 and 20 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10 and 150 to 200 pounds. In two of the incidents, the robber was described as black.
