One Dead, 8 Wounded Since Wednesday Morning

CHICAGO — A man was killed and eight others were injured in shootings across the city since Wednesday morning, police said.

Wednesday evening, a 40-year-old man was fatally shot and a 25-year-old man was struck by a stray bullet from the attack in Back of the Yards.

• In the most recent shooting, a 21-year-old man was shot on the Far South Side, Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, said Thursday morning.

Around 1:20 a.m. Thursday, the 21-year-old was walking in the 10600 block of South Green Bay Avenue when he was shot in his right foot, Sedevic said.

He was taken to Trinity Hospital, where his condition stabilized. The shooting appears to be gang related, Sedevic said.

• In the Washington Park neighborhood, a 31-year-old man was also shot during an attempted robbery.

Around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, the man was in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue when two men walked up and robbed him, Sedevic said. During the robbery, the man was shot in the back of his head. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

• Around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, two men were shot in the 3300 block of West Warren Boulevard in West Garfield Park, Sedevic said.

In that incident, a 30-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized after being shot in his hip and back. A 37-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition after being shot in his hand, Sedevic said.

The two men are convicted felons. More details about the shooting were not available.

• Around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 17-year-old boy was shot in his left leg while walking in the 4400 block of South Drexel Avenue in Bronzeville, said Sedevic. The teen was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

• On Wednesday afternoon, two men were struck by stray bullets after a man opened fire at another man in West Garfield Park. Around 3:05 p.m., the two men were in the 3900 block of West Washington Boulevard when they were shot, Sedevic said.

A 45-year-old man was listed in serious condition at Stroger Hospital after a bullet entered his chest through his arm. A 46-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition stabilized after being shot in his right leg, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shootings, Sedevic said.
