CHICAGO — Police are warning Garfield Park residents about a recent rash of purse-snatchings in the neighborhood.

The thief punched a woman who was sitting in a car and then stole her purse about 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of South Hamlin Avenue, according to a community alert issued Monday.

In another incident, the thief pulled a gun on a woman sitting in a car but ran away before getting her purse, police said. That happened about 7:30 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of South Springfield Avenue.
