Museum of Science and Industry Celebrates King's Birthday with Free Day

HYDE PARK — The Museum of Science and Industry will offer free admission for Illinois residents on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The museum at 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive will host free events all day with scientists and science instructors to kick off its Black Creativity program.

From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., students will be able to chat with working scientists and try hands-on activities about careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the museum will offer free workshops in the Innovation Studio to learn how to use simple tools and materials to solve everyday problems.

Black Creativity starts with a juried art exhibition of more than 100 amateur and professional black artists from across the country, culminating with prizes on Feb. 22.

The program continues through the month with science workshops from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every Saturday through Feb. 21.

The museum is open from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday.
